This course introduces therapists to the intersection of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). You’ll learn how to make exposure therapy more accessible, flexible, and appealing for clients who are navigating OCD, anxiety, or phobias.

ACT-Based Exposures for Political Anxiety

This course applies the ACT-based exposures to help clients navigate political anxiety. You'll learn practical strategies for building psychological flexibility, reducing avoidance, managing the distress of media overwhelm, and identifying ways clients can stay engaged with their values.

Discovering Your Niche

We’ll start by outlining the benefits of identifying a niche in your private practice and address common fears about narrowing your scope. Then we’ll walk through a client audit, strengths assessment, and values review to discover what kinds of clients leave you feeling energized, not drained, after every session. We’ll finish by discussing specific marketing strategies to reach your niche clientele this week.

Values-based Entrepreneurship

We’ll explore what it looks like to apply ACT values principles to building an ethical business. This course draws on the lived experience of with therapist entrepreneurs who have built successful values-based enterprises in a capitalist economy. You'll explore the challenges and benefits of values-based entrepreneurship and leave with new ways of thinking about how ACT can guide your professional practice.

Meet Your Instructor

Grace Dickman, LCSW (she/her)

Grace Dickman (she/her) runs a small private group therapy practice based in Brooklyn, NY that helps queer creatives bring themselves more fully into the world. She has over 10 years of experience providing trauma-informed clinical care in various domestic and international settings, including nonprofits, schools, and hospitals. She specializes in trauma, OCD, identity, and LGBTQ+ concerns. She's fiercely passionate about gender justice, trans rights, and teaching others how to love themselves through complex trauma.

Grace Olivia Dickman, LCSW PLLC, Number 1988, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 10/28/25-10/27/28 Social workers completing this course receive 2 clinical continuing education credits.
