Internal Family Systems

IFS Therapy in NYC

For the inner confusion, conflict, and complexity

If you’re struggling to understand why you think, feel, and act in certain ways, Internal Family Systems (IFS or “parts work”) offers a gentle way to see yourself in a new light. We start by identifying different "parts" of you — the inner critic, the people-pleaser, the one who shuts down, the one who rages. Rather than resisting these parts, we help you get curious and consider what each part might be protecting. The process can feel deep, meditative, and transformative, but we only go at the pace your system allows.

IFS could be a great fit for you if…

  • You feel frustrated about ways you still haven’t changed despite your efforts, and can’t seem to find the missing piece

  • You grew up in an environment where you couldn’t fully feel or express your emotions, so you learned to lock them away

  • You feel fragmented and have built a system for keeping certain parts of your identity or history compartmentalized

  • You're still getting activated by old wounds, and you sense there are younger parts carrying pain that hasn't fully been witnessed

  • You want a therapist who understands what it means to be different, queer, neurodivergent, creative, and who meets everything that comes up with curiosity instead of trying to fix it

  • "With this practice we are delving into the mysterious domain of what is thought to be beyond our ability to perceive or measure."

    SUSAN MCCONNELL, SOMATIC IFS

  • "A trigger is an invitation to meet a part of you who still needs healing"

    FRANK ANDERSON, MD

  • "The IFS model teaches us not to shame our inner selves. Instead, we embrace them with love and patience, just like an ideal parent would."

    DICK SCHWARTZ
